Some antimicrobials increased admissions and ED visits for hypoglycemia in older users of glipizide or glyburide
A study of Texas Medicare patients who took either glipizide or glyburide found that those who were also prescribed certain antibiotics had a much higher rate of hypoglycemic events than those taking an antibiotic not expected to interact with sulfonylureas.

In obesity with type 2 diabetes, duodenal-jejunal bypass liners improved weight loss and HbA1c during treatment
This randomized controlled trial of 77 obese adults with type 2 diabetes found that adding an endoscopic duodenal–jejunal bypass liner to a dietary intervention improved weight loss and HbA1c after 6 months of treatment, but the benefit was not maintained.

In patients with type 2 diabetes and CV disease, empagliflozin reduced a composite of CV events at 3.1 years
An industry-funded trial found that those who took empagliflozin had lower rates of mortality, including from cardiovascular (CV) events, than those on placebo. A commentary in ACP Journal Club called the trial results fascinating but said they are not yet sufficient to change practice.
